High Medieval Heraldic Surcoat



A medieval knight in full armour (mail with additional plate, and a full face helmet), standing before a castle wall, his heater shield across his body, and sword drawn, and wearing a quartered linen surcoat that matches his shield, black in quarters 1 and 4, red in quarters 2 and 3, with white fleurs de lys in all quarters.

A high medieval knight in full mail, blue and yellow heraldic surcoat, and gambeson, riding a horse that is running straight at the camera, against a background of trees.
The knight is bending forwards to spear something on the ground with his lance.





A Norman Woman's Dress

The red silk is embroidered with a repeating design of blue circles, surrounded by a silver border, and with silver crossed in the centres (the design taken from a fragment of embroidery in the V&A Museum, dating to c.1000AD).





High Medieval Woman's Dress



A 12th century woman's dress / kirtle - a medium blue linen dress, with wide drop sleeves in the French style, and a very full gored skirt, trimmed with bands of red linen at the sleeve ends, the hem, and the low neckline. The sleeves are lined in the same red linen.
